U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing) on Friday said she is encouraging students at borough middle schools and high schools to enter the 2017 Congressional App Challenge.
The competition is part of a nationwide competition held by the House of Representatives in which students compete by creating and exhibiting an application for mobile, tablet or computer devices on a platform of their choice. The winning app in each participating Congressional district will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website (house.gov) and displayed in a special exhibit at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Students can register for the contest or find additional information at congressionalappchallenge.us/.
The deadline to enter the competition is 12 p.m. on Nov. 1. Participants may compete individually or in teams of up to four students. Each student must submit a video of their app and explain what they’ve learned from the competition process. All entries must be original in concept, design and execution.
The winner of the contest, which will be selected by a panel of local judges who work within the academic, software and entrepreneurial fields, will be announced by the end of the year. All local students who take part will receive a certificate of Congressional recognition, Meng noted.
“This contest is a great opportunity for Queens students to highlight their technological skills and show the rest of the country how much tech talent exists right here in our borough,” the congresswoman added. “I look forward to seeing all the entries and wish the best of luck to each student who participates.”
