Area elected officials recently joined senior students at two borough high schools as they personally delivered their college applications to on-campus mailing facilities while the rest of the school and communities provided cheers of encouragement.
Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Howard Beach) participated in the College March at Channel View School for Research in Rockaway Park, while State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) marched with the senior class of the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School in Forest Hills.
The annual College March is an NYC Outward Bound Schools tradition. According to Pheffer Amato, since its inception in 2011, the event has grown beyond the five boroughs to schools across the country: Last year, 2,700 seniors marched at 35 institutions from 12 U.S. cities.
“As you begin this next journey in your life, do not forget all the people who helped you get to where you are today,” Addabbo said. “Congratulations to you all and best of luck to you in the future.”
