City Council Leaders Announce Committee Appointments

By Michael V. Cusenza
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and the Rules, Privileges, and Elections Committee recently announced Council committee assignments and leadership.
In south Queens, Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park), who earned his third and final term in November, will serve on the committees on Civil Service and Labor; Education; Environmental Protection; Parks and Recreation; Technology; and the Justice System for the next four years.
From 2014 through 2017, Ulrich chaired the Veterans Committee. He proved a strong advocate for the 210,000 former military service members living in the five boroughs, ultimately playing a critical role in the creation of the City’s new Department of Veterans Services, which was officially established in 2016.
Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D-Brooklyn) now heads the Veterans Committee.
Councilwoman Adrienne Adams (D-Jamaica) represents the residents of the 28th District, which includes Jamaica, Rochdale Village, and parts of Richmond Hill, and South Ozone Park. The seat was vacated in July when Ruben Wills was convicted of stealing campaign funds and grant money for personal benefit.
In her first term, Adams has been appointed chairwoman of the Committee on Land Use’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting, and Maritime Uses. She also will serve on the committees on Civil Service and Labor; Economic Development; Finance; General Welfare; Land Use; and Rules, Privileges, and Elections.
Councilman Bob Holden (D-Glendale), who stunned the city in November by beating incumbent Elizabeth Crowley for the 30th District seat, has been assigned to the committees on Higher Education; Immigration; Juvenile Justice; Mental Health, Disabilities, and Addiction; Technology; and Criminal Justice.
