Brooklyn Man Shot Dead in South Ozone Park

A Brooklyn man was shot dead in his friend’s car as they waited at a red light early Sunday morning in South Ozone Park, according to police and published reports.
Sherwood Beverly, 51, was shot in the head after a gunman opened fire on the vehicle as it idled on the Van Wyck Expressway near North Conduit Avenue. Beverly, a father of two who was sitting in the front passenger seat at the time of the incident, later died at Brookdale Hospital. The driver and another passenger were also shot, but were treated and released from the same facility, cops said. According to a New York Daily News report, the victims drove five miles to the 69th Precinct stationhouse on Foster Avenue in Canarsie after the car was sprayed.
The investigation is ongoing. Relatives of Beverly told the News that he had been “out late catching up with old friends” at Moka Nightclub & Lounge on 91st Avenue in Richmond Hill.
