Officials from Almonte’s Key Food of Howard Beach recently joined several community volunteers to help beautify a patch of emerald green grass on Cross Bay Boulevard near South Conduit Avenue.
Almonte’s Key Food adopted the area two years ago. Every couple of months neighborhood volunteers fill bags with litter, dead tree limbs, and grass clippings. Last week they collected 23 bags that were picked up by the City Department of Transportation.
“We want to give back to the community that supports us,” Key Food owner Frank Almonte, who trimmed trees, swept, and mowed, said. “This fall we will plant trees and expand our landscape maintenance.”
