A U.S. citizen is now facing federal narcotics smuggling charges after agents at John F. Kennedy International Airport earlier this month discovered nearly 10 pounds of heroin in her bags after she arrived in NYC from Mexico City, according to authorities.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers inspected Emma Soriano’s luggage on Friday, July 15, and found four egg-shaped packages of heroin. In total, approximately 4.4 kilograms, or 9.7 pounds, of dope were seized.
The heroin has an estimated street value of more than $300,000, according to federal officials.
“Our CBP officers’ and agriculture specialists’ experience and vigilance were key components in this significant narcotic seizure,” said Frank Russo, acting director of CBP’s New York Field Office.
