State agencies issued stop work orders on Saturday to three South Ozone Park night spots, according to officials.
Investigators from the State Workers’ Compensation Board and State Liquor Authority noted that Naresa Palace (116-14 Rockaway Blvd.) was the scene of a shooting on Aug. 1. When agency officials arrived on Friday with City Police Department Vice Division cops and 106th Precinct officers, they discovered the bar was operating without the mandatory workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurances, resulting in a stop work order. Possible penalties are pending investigation, officials said, after the owner previously attested he did not need insurance because he works alone.
Tic Tavern (125-17 Rockaway Blvd.) has a history of complaints and had received a previous stop work order in July 2017, according to the WCB. That bar was again operating without the mandatory workers’ compensation insurance, resulting in a fresh stop work order and a $295,299 penalty.
And Insomnia Bar & Lounge (127-05 111th Ave.) was operating in violation of a previous stop work order and now faces $66,263 in WCB penalties, according to investigators.
In a related operation, investigators from the Workers’ Compensation Board and SLA shut down Lone Star Sports Bar in Brooklyn last weekend because of multiple complaints from the community board.
“These efforts have led to immediate action against problem locations, and have made a positive impact for people living in these communities,” State Liquor Authority Chairman Vincent Bradley said.
According to State officials, stop work orders are lifted if an employer secures workers’ compensation insurance and arranges to pay its penalties.
