A mobile breast cancer care clinic is set to make a stop in Howard Beach next month, State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) recently announced.
In partnership with the American Italian Cancer Foundation and New York Community Bank, Addabbo will be hosting a free mammogram screening at the NYCB Howard Beach branch located at 156-02 Cross Bay Blvd., on Friday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Getting a mammogram is vitally important to women’s health as they age,” Addabbo said. “That is why I am bringing this service for my constituents, free of charge. Whether it’s getting a clean bill of health or discovering early detection, mammograms are a crucial health exam and I hope women will sign up for this service.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, after skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States. Breast cancer survival rates have increased, and the number of deaths associated with the disease is steadily declining, the clinic noted, largely due to factors such as earlier detection, a new personalized approach to treatment, and a better understanding of the disease.
To register for an appointment, call Addabbo’s Howard Beach district office at (718) 738-1111. Once registered, the American Italian Cancer Foundation will reach out to you to set up a specific appointment time for Nov. 2.
