City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) has allocated $150,000 for mechanical broom sweeping services and additional litter basket pick-ups along various commercial corridors of District 32.
With the funding, the City Sanitation Department has added twice-weekly mechanical broom sweeping service to a number of major thoroughfares, including Cross Bay Boulevard, Coleman Square, Liberty Avenue, Rockaway Boulevard and Lefferts Boulevard. The funds have also added extra litter basket pick-ups and drop-offs along Jamaica Avenue, Woodhaven Boulevard, Atlantic Avenue, and other commercial strips. Service for the additional litter basket pick-ups range from once to twice a week, depending on the location, Ulrich noted.
“Ensuring the quality of life for my constituents is a priority, and this partnership with DSNY makes our community a better place to live and work,” the councilman said on Tuesday. “I am proud to have funded these projects, which clean and beautify some of the busiest commercial strips, spanning from Woodhaven to Howard Beach to the Rockaways.”
The additional sanitation services launched the first week of August, and will run for 30 weeks.
Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic Association President Joann Ariola thanked Ulrich “for consistently funding programs in the Howard Beach community that have added street cleaning services, basket pick-up days, basket placement in areas that were in need, and graffiti removal and beautification sites throughout the district.”
