An indebted city showered its 225,000 former military service members with attention, admiration, and appreciation over the past 10 days in celebratory events marking Veterans Day 2018.
In the World’s Borough, it started on Nov. 4 with the annual Queens Veterans Day Parade along Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village. Borough President Melinda Katz honored vets on Thursday at her annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at Borough Hall. On Sunday, the Richmond Hill Historical Society hosted its Centennial Commemoration of the End of World War I at the Buddy Monument in Forest Park. Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray on Sunday morning welcomed former and current service members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces to Gracie Mansion for the Veterans Day Breakfast.
And revelers gathered along Fifth Avenue on Monday for NYC’s Veterans Day Parade.
“This is a day where I hope we recommit ourselves to our veterans and to their families,” de Blasio said on Sunday.
