Suspect George Persaud

An Ozone Park man has been charged with raping a woman last month in Jamaica, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced on Thursday.
George Persaud, 24, was arraigned on a complaint charging him with first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sexual act, second-degree kidnapping, and first-degree sexual abuse. Persaud was ordered held without bail and to return to court on Jan. 25.
According to the charges, on Dec. 29, around 11:45p.m., Persaud approached the victim, 40, on the street, displayed what appeared to be a black firearm and said “Don’t do anything stupid or I’ll kill you,” and proceeded to sexually assault the woman.
According to the complaint, Persaud took the victim to a nearby gas station where he continued the sexual assault, and over the course of several hours repeatedly sexually abused and raped her. At one point, Persaud appeared to let the woman leave—but he followed her to her vehicle, forced her into the back seat, and continued to brutalize her.
According to the charges, Persaud allegedly took the victim’s car keys and drove the two of them to an alleyway on 100th Street. When he exited the car to relieve himself, the victim remembered she had a spare key in her handbag, retrieved it and fled the scene.
Brown said that fingerprints retrieved from the interior rear driver’s side window were matched to Persaud.
If convicted, Persaud faces up to 25 years in prison, Brown noted.
“The allegations in this case are very disturbing,” the DA added.“The defendant encountered the woman shortly before midnight on the street, displayed what appeared to be a firearm, threatened and then repeatedly raped and sexually abused her for several hours. The alleged culprit has now been apprehended and faces a lengthy term of incarceration for the torture and abuse inflicted on this woman, who feared for her life.”
