The 106th Precinct on Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the death of Police Officer Nicholas DeMutiis.
According to the NYPD, on Jan. 25, 1994, DeMutiis was driving in his personal car toward the stationhouse around 11 p.m. in anticipation of his tour when he observed fellow cops pursuing a stolen vehicle on Liberty Avenue. DeMutiis sprang into action, entering an intersection in an attempt to block the fleeing crooks. He was struck by the speeding stolen car and later succumbed to his injuries.
