A man has been charged with fatally stabbing and beating his wife inside of their Jamaica home during the afternoon hours of Monday, May 20, Acting Queens District Attorney John M. Ryan announced last Wednesday.
Isidro Pacheco, 56, was arraigned last Tuesday night on a complaint charging him with second-degree murder and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Pacheco was remanded and ordered to return to court on June 4.
According to the charges, last Monday, Pacheco approached his wife, Mabel Isabel Galeano, 44, as she cooked inside of the couple’s apartment on Atari Lane near 93rd Avenue. Shortly thereafter, Pacheco allegedly reached for a knife and repeatedly stabbed Galeano multiple times in the torso before bludgeoning her with a nearby wooden cutting board. The victim managed to escape her home only to collapse at a neighbor’s residence. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she died as a result of her injuries.
After fleeing the scene, Pacheco turned himself in to authorities at the 103rd Precinct allegedly in blood-stained clothing.
Ryan called the killing “a tragic case of the most extreme outcome of domestic violence.”
If convicted, Pacheco faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
