Volunteers Prep Site for Sept. 11 Mural

Area volunteers last weekend completed power-washing efforts in an effort to help prepare the once-dilapidated walls under the overpass of the Belt Parkway at 84th Street between Shore Parkway and 157th Avenue for a highly anticipated Sept. 11 mural.

“THANK YOU to everyone who helped out [Saturday] to make sure the September 11th Memorial Mural is completed in time for the 20th anniversary,” the Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic wrote on Facebook.

“Thank you to the West Hamilton Beach Fire Dept. with Chief Nick Spinelli, Deputy Chief A.J. Quiles and firefighter Jon Stewart and the 106th Precinct and the auxiliary team headed up by Michael Hennessy, for keeping everyone safe and coordinating with the civic on this long-awaited mural.

“Thank you to the power washing crew MIKES POWERWASHING LLC, Stephen and AJ.

“Thank you to Frank and Mike who spent the morning helping and have volunteered to paint the site this week.

“Thank you to Jay Frango for your help and generosity and for finding the artists to beautify this location.

“Thank you to Gino’s Pizzeria for sending lunch for the crew!

“This was truly a community effort,” civic leadership concluded. “We thank everyone who has reached out to us to share their excitement about this project.”
