Civic + Senator + City = Problem Solved

Civic + Senator + City = Problem Solved

The underpass along 156th Avenue in Howard Beach, which has plagued pedestrians with pigeon droppings for decades, has been boarded up to protect residents and beautify the area, State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) recently announced.

Senatorial District 15 constituents and members of the Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic have consistently logged complaints about the area to Addabbo; and with the help of the State Department of Transportation, the problem areas have been addressed. Wooden planks have been installed to prevent pigeons and other birds from creating nests in the previously abundant small alcoves, as well as slats to stop birds from perching on the metal beams.

“This is the perfect example of how local government should work,” Addabbo said. “Constituents raise an issue to their local elected official, we then reach out to the appropriate agency, then that agency completes the work to fix the problem. I want to thank the constituents who brought this issue to my attention and NYSDOT for their action and timely response.”
