It’s one of those grand traditions of the World’s Borough: Memorial Day. Respecting and revering its true meaning every year.
We—the communities that make Queens what it is—do this through solemn ceremonies to quietly reflect on the service of the soldiers that have made the Ultimate Sacrifice, and the families they left behind; and the pomp and circumstance of parades—celebrations of lives cut way too short, and the grateful communities from which these heroes emerged.
“Today we honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live to enjoy our family, our friends and our lives. They put all of us first. Let’s remember to tell our little ones what today is really about and try to do something good in memory of those who gave their all,” City Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Ozone Park) said.
“Throughout this weekend, we’ll be gathering at events all across Queens to pay tribute to the heroic men and women who have served in our military branches,” Queens DA Melinda Katz added. “Their sacrifice is never forgotten.”
