A Richmond Hill man was killed shortly after midnight on Monday while riding on the rear passenger seat of a moped in Jamaica.
Severo Gonzalez, 62, lived on 129th Street.
On Monday, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision on 146th Street and Jamaica Avenue, within the confines of the 103 Precinct. Further investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 25-year-old male was operating a gas-powered moped while traveling eastbound on Jamaica Avenue approaching the intersection of 146th Street when he swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid striking a vehicle making a left turn from westbound Jamaica Avenue onto southbound 146th Street. The operator then failed to properly navigate the roadway and was ejected from the vehicle. The operator was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition. A 62-year-old male rear passenger of the moped was also ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
