Bimbo USA, a brand part of Grupo Bimbo—the largest food company and leader in the national baking industry—this week presented first-year St. John’s University student Addie Diakite with a scholarship of $25,000 to put toward his college expenses.

Addie is studying sports management at the borough school.
Addie is one of four lucky winners from Bimbo USA’s College Grant Sweepstakes.
Addie, a passionate basketball fan, is studying sports management at the borough school. He said he hopes to use his degree to start a career in sports after graduation. This grant will help him continue his education at his first-choice college.
“This grant allows me to continue to be around people who challenge me every day, allowing me to continue my studies at an institution that truly benefits me,” Addie said on Tuesday.

Through programs like the College Grant Sweepstakes, Bimbo officials said the company hopes to highlight that the percentage of Hispanics that attend higher-education institutions still lags, and that these students often face a lack of financial resources.
Bimbo USA’s College Grant Sweepstakes ran from Sept. 4, 2023 to Oct. 29, 2023. The four grand-prize winners will each receive a $25,000 college grant to go toward expenses at each winner’s accredited, non-profit college or university.
