State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Woodhaven) and music education nonprofit Harmony 4 All hosted a free back-to-school concert on Friday at PS 97 in Woodhaven.

The event showcased works by underrepresented composers and musicians, who are often overlooked in mainstream music due to race, gender, and class, the organization noted.

“I am proud to support Harmony 4 All, which not only celebrates the musical talents of students but also underscores the vital role of music education in schools,” Addabbo added. “Harmony 4 All is making a meaningful impact by bringing diverse voices to the forefront and aiming that every child has access to the joy of music.”

Addabbo and Harmony 4 All have worked together on several occasions, including last December’s free holiday concert at All Saints Episcopal Church in Woodhaven.

Founded by brother-sister duo Bianca (clarinet) and Joshua Quddus (saxophone),Harmony 4 All is a New York City based, 501(c)(3) approved organization that aims to make music education accessible to underserved students.

“We believe that musical education is as essential as academic education, providing a vital artistic outlet that supports emotional growth and mental well-being,” they said.

The organization also offers free instrument rentals/repairs to students and provide musical curriculum to teachers.

“Our goal is to create a harmonious environment of inclusivity, education, and philanthropy. By doing so, we inspire and empower the next generation of musicians, ensuring that music education knows no boundaries,” the siblings said.
