The state in which motorists are most likely to get parking fines is New York, with one of the highest revenues from parking tickets, according to a recent study by Good Guys Injury Lawyers.

The report revealed the 10 states where drivers are most likely to receive a parking fine. Key variables included the total number of licensed drivers, revenue per capita from parking fines, and the total revenue generated by parking tickets in each state. Researchers calculated the probability of a driver receiving at least one parking fine in a year, factoring in the average fine cost of $27. States were then ranked by this probability, offering insight into where drivers are most at risk of fines.

With $848.7 million in parking ticket revenue and a revenue per capita of almost $70—the highest among all states—the Empire State’s dense urban areas and strict parking regulations contribute heavily to its top position. Drivers in NY face the highest likelihood of penalties, reflecting the intense demand for parking in bustling metropolises like the Big Apple.

New Jersey rounds out the list at No. 10 with a 65-percent probability of fines and $182.5 million in total revenue. Its revenue per capita of $28 is among the lowest in the top states, suggesting less aggressive enforcement, the study posited.
