The 106th Precinct honored one of their own on Saturday—the 31st anniversary of the death of Police Officer Nicholas DeMutiis.
DeMutiis was off-duty and on his way to work when he saw cops pursuing a stolen vehicle along Liberty Avenue. DeMutiis positioned his car to block the path of the suspect, but the suspect rammed DeMutiis’ vehicle at 70 mph. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he died two hours later, according to Officer Down Memorial Page.
“He is never forgotten,” Capt. Berkley VanTull, commanding officer of the 106, said on Saturday.
DeMutiis was an 11-year veteran of the NYPD. He was survived by his wife and 3-year-old son.
