Audrey McCabe Located and Returned to Grateful Family

With all due respect to the venerated author Thomas Wolfe, you certainly can go home again.

That’s just what Ozone Park native Audrey McCabe did on Saturday—three weeks after being officially declared a missing person.

According to elated brother Sean McCabe, Audrey, 41, was spotted Saturday morning inside Penn Station by two eagle-eyed Amtrak Police Department officers armed with a Be On The Lookout broadcast from Riverhead, L.I., Police Department, the agency heading the investigation into her disappearance. Sean told The Forum on Wednesday that one of the officers approached Audrey and said, “You’re missing.”

The cops contacted Sean with the good news; he bolted from his home before even ending the phone call.

“I rushed to the A train to go pick her up,” he said. “When I got to Penn I hugged her as hard as I could—I didn’t want to let her go.”

Sean said his sister—part of the McCabe triplets: Sean, Audrey, and Patrick—all things considered, seemed to be in decent physical shape. He also said she seemed “really embarrassed, struggling with emotions.”

Audrey spent the rest of the weekend at Sean’s home, watching old movies with her family and researching inpatient rehabilitation facilities.

“She needed a good shower, a good meal, and she slept her butt off,” Sean added.

Still, Sean felt pangs of anxiety all weekend.

“I was afraid she’d rabbit on me,” he recalled. “I barricaded the door, slept with one eye open. The only easy day was [Tuesday, when Audrey entered an area facility].”

Audrey may not be around right now. But Sean acknowledged that this experience will be good for her and the McCabes.

“Triplets are different. We’ve done everything together,” he posited. “The past few weeks it was like a piece of myself was missing.”
