Members of the Fire Department reported to the A train station in Howard Beach’s Coleman Square Monday morning after what has so far only been categorized as an unknown substance was released in the air, city officials said.

According to the FDNY, it received reports just before 9:30 a.m. that people were getting sick at the train station – immediately after which the department dispatched emergency responders.

About 12 people were looked at by emergency officials, and nobody was taken to the hospital.

The MTA said it was referring questions about this situation to the NYPD, which did not discuss the matter.
