A cab driver who lost control of his vehicle during the early morning hours last Saturday was able to escape before the car sank after plunging into icy waters behind the Cross Bay Diner. The car, a late model Honda careened off Cross Bay Blvd and tore through a section of the fence in the parking lot adjacent to the diner.
The driver miraculously freed himself from the vehicle and swam to shore. Rescue units entered the water to confirm there were no other victims. The scene was cleared until morning when a tow truck lowered clamps and hoists into the bay to retrieve the vehicle.
