Dollar Van Driver Charged with Killing Rival

A Far Rockaway man last Thursday night was ordered held without bail after being arraigned on charges that he fatally shot a rival unlicensed dollar van driver on Rockaway Beach Boulevard last Tuesday, according to Queens District Richard Brown.

Fabian Sullivan, 38, has been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.

According to court documents, Sullivan got into an argument on the morning of Jan. 20, with Leon Brown, 38. Sullivan allegedly then used his vehicle to cut off Brown before stepping out of his own van and firing a single shot.

According to court records, Brown said, the bullet pierced Leon Brown’s chest. The victim’s van continued to roll and crashed into a parked car. Brown was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sullivan allegedly fled the scene, but was caught by cops after allegedly giving a bag containing the bullets from the murder weapon to his sister-in-law, Hind Chokary.

Chokary, 27, a St. Albans resident, was arraigned on a tampering with physical evidence charge last Thursday night and was released on her own recognizance.

If convicted, Chokary faces up to four years in prison. Sullivan is facing up to 25 years to life in prison.
