Acting city Department of Transportation Queens Borough Commissioner Jeff Lynch this week met with City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) to discuss solutions to some of the problems plaguing south Queens and the Rockaways.
According to Ulrich, who convened the Monday meeting at his district office on 101st Avenue, Lynch detailed new DOT projects for the Rockaway Beach Boulevard corridor in the Hammels section of the peninsula, and addressed issues concerning repaving, resurfacing, bicycle lanes, and transit safety around area schools.
Ulrich and Lynch also discussed the lighting situation at the underpass of 84th Street and Shore Parkway in Howard Beach—a concern recently brought to Ulrich’s attention by the Howard Beach Civilian Observation Patrol. DOT representatives indicated that broken lights would be fixed immediately as part of a larger project to replace current, inefficient lighting with LED technology.
“Whether it’s fixing potholes on neighborhood streets or improving transportation in the Rockaways, it is essential that city agencies are responsive to the needs of my constituents,” Ulrich said.
Lynch, who replaced Dalila Hall after she was reassigned within the agency by Commissioner Polly Trottenberg following a meeting Trottenberg had with frustrated members of the Queens delegation to the City Council, said, “DOT is always interested in partnering with local communities and the elected officials who represent them to discuss ways to make streets safer and work better for everyone.”
