A 35-year-old man captured in San Antonio, Texas and extradited back to New York has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the April 2005 slaying of his godfather, an 85-year-old retired bus driver and widower who was stabbed to death in his Queens home during a robbery.
The defendant, identified as Jamal Darrow, 35, was arraigned this week before Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth C. Holder on a three-count indictment charging him with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. Darrow, who faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted, was ordered held without bail and to return to court on July 17, 2015.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that, according to the criminal charges, Darrow stabbed his godfather, 85-year-old Charles Boyd, several times in the torso, face and neck while in the act of robbing the victim’s 116th Avenue residence on April 1, 2005.
“The defendant has been on the run for ten years, but he could not hide from justice forever. The accused – the godson of the elderly man – allegedly took a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times as he tried to rob him of his valuables. The defendant now faces spending the rest of his life locked behind bars,” said Brown.
