City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) last Thursday introduced a bill at the Council stated meeting that would create a Small Business Disaster Recovery and Resiliency Advisory Board.
Sponsored by Ulrich and Councilman Robert Cornegy (D-Brooklyn), Int. 969-2015 would establish a board to study and make recommendations on potential legislation, regulation, policies, procedures and initiatives impacting small businesses.
The advisory panel, Ulrich said, will help small businesses engage in strategic planning with city agencies to become more resilient to future natural and human-caused disasters, and to rebuild and reopen after suffering damage during a disaster. The bill also requires that the board hold public meetings at least five times annually (once in each borough).
“We need to make it as easy as possible for our small businesses to stay in business in the aftermath of a natural disaster,” Ulrich said. “This advisory board will help shine light on changes and better practices that are needed to ensure that small businesses are more resilient and better able to recover from future storms.”
