Dear Editor,
2 weeks ago the Forum was full of letters saying we should face the fact that Hillary just “came with too much baggage”. Baggage? Hillary’s baggage is a “handbag” compared to the truckload of luggage Trump and the GOP brings to the table. A competent sane woman with decades of experience or a privileged man/child in a suit? For some the choice was easy. For others it was “simple”. Congratulations to Trump supporters. You got what you wanted. A president without an Email “scandal”. You know what else he comes without? Level headedness, intelligence, comprehension of complex global issues, belief in global warming, the list goes on and on. Donald Trump is considering weakening laws that allow states to go after banking and financial fraud. They’re called “Blue Sky Laws” and after the Wall Street collapse it resulted in $95 billion in fines, penalties and consumer relief. And now Trump’s transition team is developing legislation to supersede these laws. Trump also said he wants to repeal the Dodd-Frank Act, dismantling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Do rednecks in middle America really believe a tax cut (twice the size of DUHbya’s) for the wealthy will help their economic situation? Trickle down economics has never worked and never will. Will less regulations help people like the citizens of Flint Mich. who were knowingly allowed to be poisoned by republican governor Rick Snyder all for profit? Kiss Roe-v-Wade goodbye. Equal rights? Sorry, “religious freedom” is more important. You’re gay? Don’t worry, Mike Pence believes you can be “cured”. And what about the 20 million people who finally received healthcare through the Affordable Care Act? No worries. Trump will repeal and replace it with that simple old GOP 3-step plan. 1=Get Sick, 2=Go Bankrupt, 3=Die Quickly. Then? Trump-“Obamacare is a disaster”. Now? He favors keeping the programs “stronger assets”. I guess that means “all of it”, and he’ll just change the name and take all the credit. Hmmm Trumpbamacare has a nice ring to it. A special thank you goes out to “news” media outlets that reaped huge ratings while not actually reporting facts. Especially CBS honcho Les Moonves who said “Trump may not be great for our country, but he’s great for ratings”. Some cheered the election results like fans watching the Super Bowl, but nobody has won a damn thing. As for a specific demographic that Trump needs to thank? He said it all when he said “I love the poorly educated”. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work. Well now that they’ll be running it all, they will surely prove it. But they say Democrats should give Trump a chance, and work together for the good of the country. Do they mean like when Obama was elected? Ahhh, yes. I remember Mitch McConnnel’s words of unity when, on the SECOND day of Obama’s Presidency he said the GOP’s #1 priority was ensuring that Obama would not be re-elected. How patriotic. What some middle class Trump supporters will soon realize is that they’ve traded away their healthcare and economic opportunities for the right to be a little more explicit in their racism. But I’m sure some Trump supporters in the south can find temporary employment at one of the many white supremacist gatherings celebrating Trump’s inauguration. As for healthcare? If they sustain any kind of injury they can fashion a bandage out of KKK sheets. Our country is an embarrassment. Going from a dignified, caring, intelligent president like Obama to a pompous, privileged, racist, sexist Donald Trump? David Duke, former grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan supported Donald Trump for president. And more than 60 million people voted for him anyway. The next state of the union address will be given by a man that was supported by the KKK. (Not to mention a man that has agreed to pay a $25 million settlement to end the fraud case against him). THAT is a FACT! And a DISGRACE! Even public officials are showing their true colors. Beverly Whaling (mayor of Clay County S.C.) said “Just made my day” after seeing a Facebook post that said-“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing an ape in heels”. Graffiti all over the country showing Swastika’s and the words “Go Trump!”. Less than half of our country has succeeded in electing a president who is as knowledgeable of government as a squirrel is of the rules of Jai-alai. Our country has just suffered a devastating attack whose repercussion will be felt for decades. So congratulations to those who voted for Trump, and welcome to the United States of Trumpmerica. Where earthquakes, poison water supplies and poison habitat caused by frackng are insignificant acts of God, not man. Where abortion is punishable by 5 to 10. Where the confederate flag and Nazi salute are celebrated. Where Europe is defenseless against aggression. Where climate change, carbon clouds and hate crimes are considered normal. Where more people are locked up then and all the other countries combined. Where the rich get very much richer and the majority that has become very much poorer don’t seriously matter. Where the police can search you or your home without cause. Where a crime is basically anything a cop says it is. Where women are mere objects and no means yes. It brings to mind the posters and t-shirts showing DUHbya with the caption “miss me yet”? Yes, George. We miss you. We miss you very much. P.S. Trump is however making some moves in the right direction. Like considering Mitt Romney for Secretary of State. That’s right, the same Mitt Romney who described trump thusly- “His domestic policies would lead to recession,” “His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe”. “He has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president and his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill.” “He is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” “He’s playing the members of the American public for suckers. He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat”. “His words and actions are “degrading” to women, and whose policies would trigger a recession, make America less safe and foster an era of “trickle-down racism.”
