A St. Albans resident has been charged with murder, assault and other crimes in the death of a 51-year-old man shot in the head as he and his friends – who were also injured – sat inside a vehicle off the Van Wyck Highway last Sunday morning.
“This was yet another senseless shooting in our community. A man is dead and his friends are still healing from their wounds,” said District Attorney Brown.
Pharoah Ferguson, 44, of 197th Street, is presently awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on a complaint charging him with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and four-counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
On Sunday, January 28, 2018, between 5:10 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. at the northeast intersection of the North Conduit and 135th St., the defendant along with another individual, as of yet not in custody, approached the vehicle, a late model Mercedes Benz SUV and began firing multiple times into the vehicle.
The front-seat passenger, Mr. Sherwood Beverly Jr., 51, was shot in the head and neck and died. The 50-year-old driver was shot twice in the neck. Another 50-year-old victim was grazed on the left shoulder and the last passenger sustained multiple lacerations from the shattered glass.
If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
