After a massive, eight-day manhunt highlighted by a $10,000 reward and the collaborative effort of several city commands and federal authorities, top Police Department officials on Tuesday triumphantly announced the arrest of the fiend wanted in connection with the savage sexual assault of a woman in Kew Gardens Hills last Monday.
Ronald Williams, 21, was captured at a motel in Columbia, S.C., cops said. NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea issued particular kudos to “the community, U.S. Marshals” and the “unwavering members” of the Special Victims and Fugitive Enforcement divisions for identifying, locating, and cuffing the suspect.
According to police reports, cops responded to a 911 call of a possible sexual asault last Monday around 8:30 a.m. in the vicinity of 72nd Road and Kissena Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 52-year-old woman at the bottom of an exterior stairwell unconscious with severe trauma to the face and body. Sources told the New York Post that the victim’s facial injuries were so intense she couldn’t converse with cops.
Emergency medical service personnelrushed the woman to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in serious condition. As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim remained at the Flushing hospital.
NYPD officials deemed it a random attack.
