Queens Village Resident Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of Man in Van in Cambria Heights

A 24-year-old Queens Village man has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of another man who was sitting in a van when the defendant approached and fired two shots into the vehicle early Sunday morning.
John Hines, of 111th Avenue was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Toni Cimino on a complaint charginghimwith second-degreemurder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
District Attorney Brown said, “This is yet another senseless act of gun violence in our community. The defendant is alleged to have shot and killed a 26-year-old man in the early morning hours of June 3, 2018. The defendant has now been apprehended and faces a long term of incarceration.”
Himes has been remanded and his next court date is June 21, 2018. If convicted, Hines faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
District Attorney Brown said that, according to the charges, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018, Derrick Stansbury, 26, was seated in a van on 230th Street when the defendant approached and fired two shotsinto the vehicle. The victim was hit once in his chest and another bullet entered his lower back. He died as a result of the gunshot wounds.
