A Springfield Gardens man has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking, and his female partner from St. Albans has been ordered to be incarcerated for up to four years following her admission to promoting prostitution, Chief Assistant District Attorney John Ryan, on behalf of Queens DA Richard Brown, announced on Tuesday.
Terrance (a.k.a. “Staxx”) Jackman, 37, and Zulay (a.k.a. “Mocca”) Guerrero, 36, were both indicted twice for pimping out young women as far back as February 2013, Ryan noted. Their victims were threatened, physically abused, and coerced into trading sex for cash.
Last month, Jackman pleaded guilty to two counts of sex trafficking in satisfaction of both indictments. Guerrero also pleaded guilty last month to fourth-degree conspiracy and third-degree promoting prostitution. On Tuesday, Jackman was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison and Guerrero was sentenced to one and one-third to four years’ incarceration.
According to court records, the two female victims – then ages 15 and 23 – were coerced to trade sex for cash in Queens and elsewhere by Jackman and Guerrero at various times between Feb. 1, 2013, and March 1, 2017, and to turn over all of the money they made to Jackman. On one occasion, while parked in an automobile sometime between May 1, 2016, and Oct. 1, 2016, Jackman stabbed the then-21-year-old victim in the knee with a knife. The wound left a scar and despite needing medical care, the young woman was again forced to engage in prostitution that night.
According to the charges, in the second case, Jackman met a 20-year-old woman at a nightclub on June 25, 2017, and offered her a ride home. Instead of driving her home, however, Jackman took her to an address in Queens and informed the young woman that she was going to work for him as a prostitute. Jackson and Guerrero both took pictures of the victim and posted them on the now-defunct Backpage.com, offering her as a prostitute. On June 30, 2017, the victim was driven to a location to have sexual relations with a stranger for money and while there she told the man that she had been kidnapped and he let her escape. The victim immediately called 911 and told police she had been kidnapped by a pimp.
“The two defendants in this case admitted to trafficking young women and forcing them into trading sex for cash. The victims—who feared for their safety—had to have sex with strangers on multiple occasions and were required to turn over all the money they made. The male defendant threatened the victims and one was actually stabbed in the knee and without any medical attention forced to still prostitute herself that night,” Ryan said. “No one can look here and declare that prostitution is a victimless crime. These women were victimized and these defendants will answer for their actions.”
