Last month, an allegedly intoxicated employee of an Ozone Park car wash slammed the vehicle he was driving into a customer who was walking to pick up her own car after tipping other workers.
The victim, Tracy McManus, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Edwin Vargas has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and driving while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.
This week, members of the 102nd Precinct Traffic Safety Unit visited area car wash establishments and distributed traffic safety fliers and literature to employees and customers.
