It seems that the five boroughs are teeming with vaunted veterinarians.
According to a crowdsourced study spearheaded by OneVet, a website and app that provides 24/7 access to veterinarians, New York City is the No. 5 home to the best vets in the country.
In terms of methodology, OneVet turned to Yelp because “we wanted to know where in the U.S. the most vetted of veterinarians can be found.”
To determine the cities with the highest rated vets, OneVet averaged the ratings for every veterinary clinic and independent practitioner in the 50 most populous U.S. cities and the District of Columbia. It also determined the percentage of veterinary reviews that were 5-star reviews.
The Big Apple scored a 4.28. Austin, TX ranks highest with an average star rating of 4.34.
However, it wasn’t all banner news for NYC this week. According to another research, New York is the “worst” city for cats.
The 10 worst cities for cats tend to make it difficult for cat owners to find a cat-friendly home, a local veterinarian, and a pet store. Only three out of the 10 cities have cat cafes—New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Houston, TX. Cat adoption in the worst city for cats, New York, is the lowest per capita out of all 50 analyzed cities, at only 187 adoptions per capita; even if New Yorkers do adopt a cat, their chances of finding a pet-friendly rental are slim, with only 17.3 available rentals per capita.
Florida seems to be the best state to be a cat. Miami is tops (43.47 out of 50), followed by Orlando (43.37), and Tampa comes in at No. 9 (33.97).
New York arrived dead-last with just 5.93 out of a possible 50.
