Three other patrons suffered gunshot wounds.

On Sunday night, a fight erupted during a party at a motorcycle club on Jamaica Avenue near 214th Place in Queens Village. Off-duty City Correction Officer David Donegan has been hailed as a hero for pulling out his service weapon and firing at a man who initiated the gunplay at the party. The shooter, Mark Gibbs, was shot three times; Donegan was shot once in the leg; and another person was shot in the melee.

The Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association called Donegan’s actions “nothing short of heroic.”

“[H]ad our officer not exercised his training and made a split second decision, this incident could have cost many innocent people their lives, including his own,” COBA President Benny Boscio said.

The investigations into both incidents remain ongoing.
