Sunday Blaze Damages Small Businesses

A usually serene summer Sunday morning last weekend was loudly disturbed around 7 a.m. by the piercing sirens of first responders racing down Cross Bay Boulevard, answering a 911 call of a commercial fire at a nail salon on the Howard Beach thoroughfare near 164th Avenue.

The ridiculously high temperatures coupled with the breeze off the bay allowed the stubborn inferno to quickly spread to two neighboring businesses.

No injuries were reported, but the three shops incurred massive water, fire, and smoke damage.

An eyewitness, who requested that her name not be published, said one of the affected small businesses “literally looked like it had completely melted.”
