With minimal races on the docket and no surprises to report, it was a rather staid Primary Day on Tuesday in Queens.
In the 25th Assembly District Republican Primary, Kenneth Paek (69.15 percent of the vote) cruised past
Kenneth Chiu (30 percent) to earn the opportunity to face longtime incumbent Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D-Flushing).
In the 35th Assembly District Democratic Primary, Larinda Hooks (57 percent) soundly beat Hiram Monserrate (39 percent). Incumbent Jeffrion Aubry (D-Corona) has announced that he will retire at the end of the term.
In the 37th Assembly District Democratic Primary, Claire Valdez (58 percent) blistered by embattled incumbent Assemblyman Juan Ardila (D-Sunnyside; 10 percent).

And in the 40th Assembly District Democratic Primary, Incumbent Assemblyman Kevin Kim (D-Flushing; 53 percent) bested Yi Andy Chen (39 percent).
On Monday, the Justice Department announced that it will monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws in Queens for the June 25 primary election.
The Justice Department enforces the federal voting rights laws that protect the rights of all citizens to access the ballot. The department regularly deploys its staff to monitor for compliance with federal civil rights laws in elections in communities all across the country. In addition, the department deploys federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management, where authorized by federal court order.
