Interactive Stress-Relief Event Coming to Richmond Hill

By Forum Staff

In recognition of April as National Stress Relief Awareness Month, State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Woodhaven) has partnered with experts from Northwell Health Long Island Jewish Forest Hills for an interactive event that will teach attendees real life ways to manage stress, using simple techniques that can be repeated at home. They will also demonstrate ways to incorporate relaxation and humor into one’s life and provide resources for those seeking extended treatment. Additionally, stress-relieving devices will be distributed to attendees.

The event will be held on April 30 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Block Association One Stop Center, located at 110-08 Jamaica Avenue. The association is a co-sponsor, and the event will be incorporated into their monthly meeting, but it is open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend.

If stress becomes chronic, it can lead to health conditions like anxiety, depression, digestive problems, headaches, muscle tension and pain, heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke, sleep problems, weight gain, and problems with memory and focus, according to the Mayo Clinic.

“Life can get complicated, stressful, and at times overwhelming,” Addabbo said. “You are not alone. We all deal with stress in our own ways, but sometimes there are better strategies, and that’s what this event is about, learning how to manage stress in a healthy way before it gets out of control.”
