From Broad Channel to Ridgewood, and all communities in between, the World’s Borough on Monday marked Memorial Day 2025 via parades and solemn testaments to U.S. service members that have given their lives for their country.

“You can never, ever forget the sacrifice that others have made for our freedom,” U.S. Marine Corps veteran Pat Connolly said at this year’s event in Coleman Square in Howard Beach.

“It was a pleasure to march alongside heroic Veterans in Broad Channel’s Memorial Day Parade,” Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Howard Beach) said. “We will always honor those who gave their lives defending our freedoms! Thank you to the NYPD, American Legion, VFW, our [volunteer firefighters] and the Women’s Auxiliary for putting this parade together.”

City Councilman Bob Holden (D-Maspeth) said, “Memorial Day should be a reflective day. A day we remember the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served and died in defense of our great country. I was proud to march in the Glendale/Ridgewood and Maspeth parades to honor them—and I thank the organizers for keeping this important tradition alive.”
