Neighbors Say Eyesore Home Will be Repaired

This home, at 101-16 157th Ave. in Howard Beach has appeared to be abandoned for months, sporting the same, unmoved, rusty car – without license plates – in the driveway all along. Forum Newsgroup Photo by Patricia Adams.

Neighbors of a house on 157th Avenue in Howard Beach are worried that the house has been abandoned and have gone so far as to contact their State Senator as the property slides into disrepair.

The home at 101-16 157th Ave. is unlived in, has a completely overgrown yard, abandoned refuse and a rusting car without a license plate sitting in the driveway.
The neighbor who alerted The Forum about the home said she hasn’t seen anyone there in years and is worried about animal infestations.

She asked not to be named, but the Howard Beach resident did take some action of her own.

She sent a letter to State Senator Joe Addabbo (D-Howard Beach) asking if anything could be done about the eyesore.

He in turn sent a letter to the homeowner, warning him that neighbors had been complaining about the property and enquiring if it could be repaired.

On Tuesday, May 1, neighbors next door to the home were outside working on their own property.

They said an elderly woman had lived in the house until she passed away, and it’s her car sitting idle in the driveway.

The homeowner is her son, they say.

The home reportedly deteriorated because he was away attending to personal business but he plans on returning, living in the home and fixing it up.

There’s no indication of exactly when that could happen though. The Forum will continue to follow through.
