New York has kicked off its annual Free Summer Meals program, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Howard Beach) announced on Tuesday.
There are several locations in the 23rd Assembly District where those 18 years old and younger can get free meals from now through Aug. 29. Pheffer Amato said that she ensured that locations would be open Monday through Friday, with some serving breakfast, lunch, or both. The meals are provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture via the Office of Food & Nutrition Services, a part of the City Department of Education.

“This is a great program to guarantee that all our children have access to a meal,” Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato said.
Locations in Howard Beach and Ozone Park include:
- The Howard Beach Library, located at 92-06 156th Ave., will serve lunch from 1 p.m. -2 p.m.
- PS 63, located at 90-15 Sutter Ave., will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. – 9:15 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
- The Ozone Park Library, located at 92-24 Rockaway Blvd., will serve lunch from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
“This is a great program to guarantee that all our children have access to a meal,” Pheffer Amato said. “For years I have worked to fight food insecurity because no child should ever be hungry! That mission continues over the summer, even when school is not in session, which is why I want families to know and use this free opportunity for children.” Pheffer Amato added that starting this school year, all students at public, private, or charter schools will be eligible for free meals.
