On Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., just before the annual Fall Festival gets underway at Victory Field, the Forest Park baseball diamond will be named in honor of hero City Police Det. Brian Simonsen.
Nicknamed “Smiles,” Simonsen, who spent his entire 19-year-career serving the 102nd Precinct, was shot and killed as he responded to a report of an armed robbery at a T-Mobile store on 120th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Richmond Hill. He was 42.
City Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Ozone Park) and The Detective Brian Smiles Simonsen Memorial Foundation are hosting the event.
