Police Shoot Middle Village Man After Woodhaven Carjacking

A 22-year-old Middle Village man was shot and killed after a carjacking that started in Woodhaven and ended in a wreck and police shootout in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn around 4 a.m. on Jan. 26, police said.

Christopher Kissane of 73-06 68th Road in Middle Village allegedly tried to steal two cars in the wee hours of Thursday morning in Queens before successfully stealing one in Woodhaven.

Police said he tried to break into one car at Myrtle Avenue and fired a shot at a woman he tried to carjack next on Cooper Avenue. She sped away avoiding injury, however.

Headed toward the Brooklyn-Queens border, Kissane successfully took a third car at gunpoint—a Chrysler minivan in Woodhaven.

Around 4 a.m., an off-duty police lieutenant found the van smashed into a light pole in Brooklyn at Cypress Hill Street and Jamaica Avenue.

Police said Kissane jumped out of the vehicle and fled down Jamaica Avenue. After calling for backup, the lieutenant pursued him.

Kissane fired one shot and missed the unnamed lieutenant, according to police. The deputy returned fire, hitting Kissane and killing him. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced DOA, police said. The lieutenant was also treated for trauma.
