Police Union Endorses Crowley for Congress

The union for some NYPD commanders endorsed Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley in her bid for congress last week, adding to the stable of first-responders backing herThe Captains Endowment Association represents captains, deputy inspectors, inspectors, and deputy chiefs. On April 5, they joined the Uniformed Firefighters Association in backing Crowley. She heads the Fire and Criminal Justice Committee in the council.

“Throughout her career, Elizabeth Crowley has fought to protect the public safety of New Yorkers,” said Captains Endowment Association President Roy Richter. “She has been a great supporter of the NYPD and is the best candidate to ensure that police officers in New York and around the country receive the support and resources we need from Washington to keep our City safe.”

Crowley is part of a four-way democratic primary for New York’s 6th Congressional district. She is vying with Assemblywoman Grace Meng, Assemblyman Rory Lancman and newly entered Jeff Gottlieb for Gary Ackerman’s vacated seat.

So far, Crowley has shown ties to the fire and police unions, being the only one to pick up their support.

“The NYPD has shown time and again that they are up to the task of protecting the City,” said Crowley “Police officers risk their lives every day to protect New Yorkers, and they need someone in Washington who will demand they receive funding and equipment necessary to keep New York protected.”

In a press release announcing the endorsement, Crowley listed some of her past support of the department, including advocating for the James Zadroga 9/11 Health bill and protesting pension cuts.“I am honored that the NYPD Captains Endowment Association believes I am best suited to go to Congress and fight for our police officers,” she said.
