Alleged Mugging in Racino Parking Lot

The husband of a state senator was mugged outside of the Aqueduct racino — or so he says.

Herbert Huntley, spouse of state Sen. Shirley Huntley (D-Jamaica), claimed he was mugged at gunpoint in the parking lot of the casino. He filed a police report late on Thursday, May 17 detailing his claims.

According to Huntley, three men, two with handguns, approached him in the parking lot, demanding money and other valuables. Huntley said the men took about $380 in cash, but returned his wallet; declined his cell phone because it was too old; and left his wedding ring behind because he couldn’t get it off his finger.

State Sen. Shirley Huntley confirmed that her husband filed a police report.

“When my husband goes to the casino, he never takes a lot of money, and he usually comes back early,” Huntley said. “He called me and told me he was winning and was going to hang out a little longer. When he was walking to the parking lot, three guys, two with guns, referred to him as ‘pops’ and told him to give them his money.”

However, Resorts World officials said their surveillance footage doesn’t show anything like that happening at all, on a preliminary look. They claim the security videos clearly show Huntley the whole time he was inside the casino and while he walked to his car. They said nothing that looked even a little bit like a robbery could be spotted on the tape.

“The safety of our patrons is Resorts World New York’s top priority,” said Resorts World representative Stefan Friedman. “A preliminary look at our surveillance system does not support the allegation. We have provided all relevant information to the NYPD and will continue to cooperate with them as they conduct their investigation.”

Huntley told the Queens Chronicle that she had been told by an inside source that not all of the casino’s security cameras were working.

The two accounts directly conflict each other, leaving resounding questions about what actually happened.

The incident remains under investigation, according to police.
