Editorial: Vote Hakeem Jefferies, Rory Lancman June 26

Well alright, it’s that time again. You know, where we tell you that Primary Day is coming up and you really have to get out there and vote.
But you know what, we’re not only telling you that, we are telling you who it is to go out and vote for.

So there, everything is taken care of except a ride to the polls and we’re gonna go out on the limb here and say that a candidate that really cares about your vote will find a way to get you to the polls on their dime/time We know very, very few people are planning to go out and vote. Predictions are lower than they have ever been in consideration of projected turnout.

Ironically, the message of non-voters is that which speaks at the highest volume. And it is that message which resonates every day; in our taxes, our schools, our safety, our services, our overall quality of life.

Remember, these are the things we forfeit if we fail to collectively seek out and send forth elected officials who are capable and trustworthy of handling our lives, on an everyday basis and into the foreseeable future.

In two very consequential congressional races, one in the 6th District and one in the 8th District, Forum readers and their neighbors are faced with critical situations and cannot afford to be without confident congressional representation.

We ask you to first consider that and secondly to consider that into the candidate endorsements we are about to put forth, went a great deal of time and energy, interviewing and research.

Our endorsement does not come lightly and only goes only to those to whom we feel can honestly serve the community at large with determination and concern for its citizens.

There are two candidates, one in each of the races, whom we feel meets the stringent criteria that we base such endorsements on.
In the newly formed eighth congressional district, The Forum endorses Hakeem Jefferies. We have found Mr. Jefferies to be a well-informed, articulate man who speaks openly and with candor about all matters. He has served as a member of the NY State Assembly, is a graduate of NYU Law and has a diversified successful business background.

Mr. Jefferies opponent, Councilman Charles Barron, was featured in this editorial space months ago . At that time we took about 800 words to beg you not to vote for Charles Barron. This time we will describe him with only four words: he is a malignancy. Barron must be excised from this race if the community is to be represented.

We believe Mr. Jefferies is a very capable and qualified candidate whose achievement and ability towers over Barron in every way.
In the 6th District, with four candidates to chose from, The Forum enthusiastically endorses Rory Lancman.

A state assembly member for five years, Lancman has been repeatedly lauded for the breadth of his legislative accomplishments during his tenure in Albany.

A Queens native, he graduated from Queens College and went on to earn his law degree at Columbia. He served in the National Guard and left a private law practice to run for political office. Lancman is seasoned legislator with a posture in favor of sufficiently aggressive terrorist measures to guarantee maximum safety considerations are observed.

No one else in this field can go toe to toe with Lancman.

Bob Mittman is not qualified to seek this office but at least he has an excuse––he’s a doc.

Grace Meng, the strongest of Lancman’s opponent has some experience as a member of the Assembly and is also a lawyer but that is where the similarity ends. Any strengths Meng may have had were dangerously diluted after misrepresentations about her relationship with The Queens Tribune and its multi-media division surfaced–– Meng hired them for her campaign. But leaving all that out, she doesn’t have equal footing with Lancman on a multitude of plateaus especially those concerning foreign policy, homeland security and economic foundation and development.

That leads us to the last of the candidates, Elizabeth Crowley, to whom we’ve also donated a little editorial space from time to time.
Let’s face it, there isn’t really enough space to discuss the blunder ridden campaign trail behind the Councilwoman from Middle Village.

And honestly there isn’t much more than what we have already said. It’s as easy as ABC, Anyone But Crowley.

Rory Lancman deserves a shot in Congress; he’s more than qualified to do the job that’s needed.

We hope you will continue to trust our opinion and support Hakeem Jefferies and Rory Lancman on Tuesday, June 26th.
