After Assemblywoman Grace Meng claimed victory in Tuesday’s 6th District Congressional primary, Assemblyman Rory Lancman appeared before a group of supports in Forest Hills to give his concession speech.

Lancman, standing at the podium with his wife Morgan by his side, said that while he would rather be giving a victory speech, he was glad to be able to compete against Meng and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.

“But if I have to give a concession speech, I’m very proud that I’m giving one in a race like this one. This was a very, very positive race, on all sides,” Lancman said to small gathering of supporters at Queens Jewish Center on 108th Street.

In his concession speech, Lancman complemented both Meng and Crowley and thanked his campaign workers for the hard work they did while he was running for Congress.

He also said that he was glad he made the decision to join the race and—although he’s said he’s not petitioning for another run in the Assembly— he indicated the Congressional defeat isn’t the end for him in terms of politics.

“This was, for me, almost a dream of a lifetime,” Lancman said. “I’m enormously proud of the fact that I took this leap, I made this effort, I went for this dream and I’m so proud that all of you made that leap with me.”
