Police Seek Suspect in Attempted Astoria Rape

Police are on the look-out for a livery cab driver who allegedly attempted to rape a passenger last Friday morning.

According to police, the victim, a 20-year-old female, exited the suspect’s cab at 1:35 a.m. The driver then followed the girl into the vestibule of an apartment building near 30th Street and 34th Avenue in Astoria.

Police report the driver grabbed the girl from behind, pulled her pants down and tried to rape her.

The victim struggled and was able to fight the suspect off.

Police say the driver left in a light-colored Lincoln town car.

The victim was removed to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The police have video of the driver and describe him as hispanic, 20 to 25 year old, 5 feet 4 inches, and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and dark pants.
