De Blasio calls for Correction in Polling Site Information

There has been confusion over where people are supposed to go to vote in next week’s primary election and one public official is calling for those problems to be fixed before people cast their ballots.

Public Advocate Bill DeBlasio is asking the Board of Elections (BOE) to fix mistakes in their mailing information that could send some people to the wrong polling site during next week’s election.

According to a press release from de Blasio’s office, because of redistricting that took place earlier this year, some people have received information about where their new polling site is and other have not, which has led to overall confusion as to where you’re supposed to go to vote.

“If we can’t even get people to the right poll site to vote, we are really up the creek. The Board of Elections has to make this right. Fast,” de Blasio said in a statement.

He wrote a letter to Maria Guastella, president of the Commissioners of the BOE, pointing out problems people have had so far and his suggestions on

how to fix it.

In the letter, DeBlasio stated that many Queens residents were told to vote at the Forest-Park Co-ops in Woodhaven. When those people called the BOE to double check on the site, they were told that their actual voting site was at P.S 113 in Glendale.

Among the recommendations de Blasio wrote in the letter are to place poll workers at voting sites all over Queens that know about the misinformation that was mailed out and can direct people who have the wrong information to the right voting place. The letter also suggests making the affidavit voting process as quickly as possible for people who cannot or are physically unable to travel to a polling site. Finally, the letter asks the BOE to make sure the correct information is being mailed out before the presidential election in November.

De Blasio’s letter to the BOE was co-signed by eight elected officials including Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley and Assemblywoman Grace Meng.
